PEFC

The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), i.e. the Programme for the evaluation of the criteria of forestal certifiction, is a system for the certification of a sustainable management of forests. PEFC is an international initiative based on a wide agreement amongst all parties involved in the implementation of sustainable forest management at both a national and regional level. Amongst its aims, it is worth mentioning its efforts to improve the image of forest growing and all the production chain  from forest to timber, which actually is a valid tool for the trade of timber and other forest products as well as plants managed in a sustainable way.
In Italy, we have PEFC Italia, a non-profit association which is the national control organ of PEFC certification system whose head office is in Perugia.
The PEFC system allows certifying:

  • sustainability of forest management
  • tracing all timber and paper products both traded and transformed, which come from PEFC certified forests.
